The Desktop Shredder V2 is a benchtop motorised plastic shredder designed and built in the UK by Sustainable Design Studio, for recycling, prototyping, and educational use. Convert waste plastic and failed 3D prints into consistent 8 mm flake at up to 20 kg per hour, ready for injection moulding or extrusion.

A 1.5 kW motor through a 1:40 worm gearbox delivers high torque at low speed. Choose the standard 8 mm mesh for ~20 kg/hr output, or fit the optional 5 mm mesh for finer flake.

A vent on the back of the box accepts any standard workshop vacuum, pulling shredded flake clean off the blades and keeping dust out of the room. Optional, but a key upgrade for shared workshops and classrooms.

Can I run the DSV2 in a 110V country?

The DSV2 is a 220-240V, 50Hz, single-phase machine only. There is no 110V version. To run it in the USA, Canada, Japan, or anywhere else on 110V mains, use a 2 kW step-up transformer (110V to 220V), which gives the 1.5 kW motor about 0.5 kW of headroom.

How long does the kit take to build?

About 7 to 8 hours, split into shredder box (~2.5 hours), electronics on the main frame (~4 hours), and final assembly (~1.5 hours). Tools: standard metric Allen keys, Phillips and flathead screwdrivers, spanners, circlip pliers, and a nylon-faced hammer. The Partial Built option ships with most of the assembly already done and only takes a couple of hours to finish.

What plastics can I shred?

PP, HDPE, LDPE, PLA, PETG, PS, ABS, and Acrylic, plus many more. See the full plastic material database for compatibility detail. The output is sized to feed directly into the Injection Mini V2 for injection molding, with a standard 8 mm mesh giving ~20 kg/hr throughput. NOT suitable for plastic film, fabrics, or anything thicker than 3 mm.

Do you ship to my country?

Yes. We ship worldwide with carbon-neutral delivery as standard, and have shipped to 94 countries to date. Default invoicing is in GBP; we can also issue invoices in EUR, USD, or CAD on request. The DSV2 is heavy (85 kg) so freight is quoted per destination at checkout.

What is the difference between V1 and V2?

The V2 adds variable-frequency drive speed control, redesigned cutting teeth that produce cleaner flake at the same torque, a vacuum extraction port on the back of the box, two-direction reversible operation for clearing jams, and three independent safety interlocks (door, hopper, and e-stop) for shared workshops. Same 20 kg/hr output, same moulding-ready 8 mm mesh.

Is the DSV2 safe for classroom use?

Yes. Three independent interlocks (door, hopper, and e-stop) disable shredding unless every guard is closed and the rotary switch is in the default position. UKCA and CE certified. Connect any standard workshop vacuum to the rear extraction port for cleaner, dust-controlled operation.
