First-use guidance

Get the cleanest first shot, every time

Aluminium moulds run their best when they are prepped properly. Three habits keep your cavities releasing cleanly across thousands of shots.

Clean before first use

Wipe the cavity and parting line with isopropyl alcohol on a lint-free cloth to remove any machining residue. Dry fully before clamping the mould to your machine.

Apply mould release spray

Apply a silicone-based mould release spray ahead of the first shot. A light, even coat on every cavity face is enough. Reapply every 20 to 50 shots for simple moulds, or every few shots for complex moulds with deep features.

Heat to 50°C for best results

Bring the mould up to 50°C before your first proper shot, two or three sacrificial shots are usually enough. The first morning shot is rarely the keeper. After each run, brush out flash and store the mould dry to protect the engraving.

Are CAD files supplied with Premium Moulds?

No. Every Premium Mould is a proprietary Sustainable Design Studio product, CNC machined in house from aluminium, and the cavity designs are not shared. This includes the 3D Printed Insert Holder Mould (PM013). For PM013 specifically, the aluminium holder CAD is not available, but free STL files for the 3D printed inserts can be downloaded from our resources page.

What is the lead time?

One to two weeks from order. Custom engraving does not extend the lead time, the cavity engraving is CNC machined alongside the rest of the tooling.

Which machines are the moulds compatible with?

Every mould in the current catalogue runs on the Injection Mini V2 and the Arbour Injection Machine V2. Both our tapered hybrid and standard screw-on nozzles are supported. Three moulds (PM013, PM014, PM015) are also designed for the Extruder Mini V2.

Do I need mould release spray?

Yes, especially for the first few shots. Clean the mould before first use and apply a silicone-based mould release spray. After that, reapply every 20 to 50 shots for simple moulds, or every few shots for complex moulds with deep features.

What plastics can I run?

PP and HDPE run across the entire range. Some moulds also accept LDPE, PS, and PLA, plus many more on a per-product basis. Check the spec panel on the individual product page for the approved material list and recommended temperatures, or browse our plastic material database for the wider list.

Can I engrave my logo?

Most Premium Moulds support custom engraving on the cavity. The maximum logo area varies by product and is listed in each spec panel. Engraving is free of charge on every order placed this month, with no impact on lead time.
