At the Sustainable Design Studio we specialise in helping our clients through the entire design process for custom products made from recycled plastic. No matter what stage of the design process you are at we can support with Product Design, Mould Design, Production Cost and Business Optimisation.
The Process

Initially, we arrange a free 30-minute call with one of our directors to help understand what your product is, and how we can turn it into a reality. Ideally, we will figure out the production process, dimensions, volume, plastic-type, and plastic source during this call.

Once the product brief has been confirmed, then this is the point the design team take over and convert your product item in a digital mockup. Allowing us to create 3D printed prototypes and mockups delivered right to your door.
The process phase can cost as little as £40/€45/$50.

Once the product design is confirmed and approved by you, we move onto the mould design. Before this point the team will have guided you through the number of parts you can make per injection and what machine we recommend you use.

Once everything is confirmed we then begin fabrication of your mould. Using industrial-grade machines, we carve your new mould from Aluminium (or other materials if specified). Resulting in a high-quality mould ready for the production of recycled plastic products.
We focus on affordability without compromising on quality. Fabrication of your mould starts at around £300/€350/$400.

As a part of the service we provide, all moulds will be tested on our machines before being shipped. Ensuring that they meet our performance expectations before arriving with you. This also ensures we can offer continued support and guidance on key settings and processes related specifically to your custom mould!
A Client Success Story.
We recently created a unique custom mould for Croatian non-profit organisation Maritimo Recycling of a stunning Tuna Tail pendant.
The process was simple, the client had a product idea, we designed and fabricated the mould, and Maritimo Recycling produced the product from plastic waste collected locally from the Adriatic Sea. Each pendant sold enabled Maritimo to recycle 10 plastic bottles or 100 plastic bottle tops from the Adriatic Sea. The money raised meant the association’s volunteers could carry out further beach and sea clean up operations.
The pendants were available in three colours and were produced using our Arbour Injection machine.
Maritimo Recycling’s business model demonstrates that plastic from the sea, as harmful as it is to marine life, can also be a valuable resource when combined with our off the shelf machines and a unique custom designed mould.
