Maker V2

PET bottles to 1.75mm filament.

The Filament Maker V2 is a benchtop machine designed and built in the UK by Sustainable Design Studio, for makers, classrooms, and product designers who want to print with their own recycled PET. Wind any PET bottle 1L or larger into 1.75mm filament, ready to spool and load into any 3D printer.

92g/hr

A 1L PET bottle that costs nothing becomes 1.75mm filament ready to spool. The Filament Maker V2 pulls one continuous strand through a heated nozzle in real time, no pellets to dry, no extruder to clean down. Faster than most desktop printers can lay it down.

Bottle to filament

Any PET bottle, 1L or larger

2L bottles produce the most filament per bottle. Larger bottles work too. Cut a clean strip, feed it in, and let the heated nozzle pull it through.

Plug and play

Worldwide voltage compatible

Runs from a 12V DC mains adapter at 4A (48W). 100-120V or 220-240V mains, with UK, EU, NA, or AU plug supplied for the country you ship to.

Technical specifications

Every figure below is published in the Filament Maker digital product passport and verified against the build guide.

Output and feed rates assume a steady supply of clean PET bottle strip. Print quality with the resulting filament depends on drying and printer profile (guidance on the resources page).

Output rate Up to 92g of filament per hour
Filament diameter 1.75mm, the standard size for desktop 3D printers
Input PET bottles 1L or larger (2L preferred for yield, larger bottles also work)
Drive mechanism Heated nozzle winder with automatic feed
Heater power 48W (12V DC, 4A)
Voltage 100-120V or 220-240V mains via the included 12V DC adapter
Plug variants UK (Type G), EU (Type E), AU/NZ (Type I), or NA (Type B), selected at checkout
Machine dimensions 16 × 34 × 10cm (D × W × H)
Machine weight 2kg
Shipping box 38 × 20 × 15cm Kit (3.5kg) or 38 × 20 × 22cm Assembled (3.5kg). All dimensions D × W × H.
Frame Powder-coated steel chassis
Supported input PET only, high-clarity bottle-grade. For other plastics see the plastic material database.
Print profiles Tested rPET 3D print profiles included via the resources page

V1 vs V2

Five refinements, one redesigned machine

+10%

Faster throughput

Pull filament faster. V2 lifts the output rate from 84g/hr on V1 to roughly 92g/hr, around an hour saved on a full 1kg spool.

Tighter

Sharper heating precision

A more accurate heater holds the nozzle inside a tighter window than V1, which means more consistent diameter and fewer surprises on long prints.

Upgraded

Stronger plastic parts

The plastic components inside the V2 are reworked for stiffness and lifespan, less play in the drive train and a longer service interval than V1.

Simpler

Easier kit assembly

Fewer parts, a simpler build path. The V2 mechanical design strips out the fiddly steps from V1 so a first kit build is faster from unboxing to first spool.

Held

Same price

Every upgrade above lands at the V1 price. From £190 as a kit, the FMV2 stays the cheapest plastic-bottle-to-filament machine we make.

Yes. The 12V DC mains adapter (4A, 48W) plugs into any standard outlet. Universal 100-120V or 220-240V compatibility, with UK, EU, NA, or AU plug supplied for the country we ship to.
Any PET bottle 1L or larger. 2L bottles produce the most filament per bottle. Even larger bottles work too, just cut a clean strip and feed it in.
Yes. The output is consistent 1.75mm diameter, the standard size for desktop 3D printers. We include tested rPET print profiles on the resources page so you can dial in temperature and speed for clean prints.
Yes. We ship worldwide with carbon-neutral delivery as standard, and have shipped to 94 countries to date. Default invoicing is in GBP; we can also issue invoices in EUR, USD, or CAD on request.
Up to 92g per hour on the V2 with a steady feed, about 10% faster than V1. A 2L bottle yields enough filament for several small prints; larger bottles yield more.
Yes, recycled PET filament should be dried for 4 to 6 hours at 60-70°C before printing for best results. A simple food dehydrator or filament dryer works. The resources page has detailed guidance.
